Recently a fellow coach asked me what I want to create. Before I could jump into the details of plans for my next coaching program, he stopped me and clarified what he meant...
What do you want to create for your clients? Why are you even doing this at all?
My initial reaction was "better health" but I stopped myself from saying it out loud. I knew it was much more than that but I couldn't come up with the words on that spot. I've often been someone who likes to research, read, research more, write my thoughts, re-write them, research a little more before I feel comfortable sharing with others.
It's not that I don't have an opinion, but I like to understand things from multiple sides so that I can form a more thoughtful response.
I've also been working on speed to execution lately and not letting myself get too caught up in the analysis paralysis trap. Focusing on action over analysis still feels messy and rushed much of the time, and it's also led to a lot of new ideas and more simplified versions of old ideas..and to just getting more ideas out there in the world.
My new coaching friend didn't expect an immediate response but he posed the "creation" question because it was one presented to him that also had him take pause in the moment and later led to clarity of the true motivation behind his work.
I did end up responding while on the call and said I want my clients to be excited about life. And I told him I'd spend more time thinking on it (because yes, old analytical habits die hard).
Less then 5 minutes after ending the call, it came to me. What I really want to create with my clients are 3 feelings: Energized, Engaged, and Excited.
I should also preface this by saying I am a huge nerd for alliteration, so the E's came quickly. This may evolve as I spend more time with it but I think it's already pretty close to what it is I truly want for everyone I work with, and really anyone this resonates for.
Let me explain what I mean. I want to see more people Energized, meaning experiencing a boost to physical and mental energy; having a sense of vitality and liveliness and spirit in their day-to-day flow.
I'd love to hear about how Engaged you are, as in actively connecting and finding purpose; being fully present and committed to the moment—whether it’s with a person, task, or activity.
And of course Excited! How great would it be to feel enthusiastic and eager to take on what's next, discovering new ways to find joy and spread it to others?
OK, maybe that last part sounds a little too much like Will Ferrell in Elf but hopefully you get my point.
The way I work with people is typically through coaching better nutrition, movement, stress management, sleep, and mindsets but getting your health on track is really just my way of showing you a faster path toward feeling more energized, excited and engaged...and that makes me more energized, engaged and excited!
This new way of framing things has me curious what others want to create in this next year. Not in the typical goal setting fashion (though you know I love that too) but in a broader sense.
